The School of History, Classics and Archaeology was created
in 2002 from the former departments (now Subject
Areas) of History, Economic and Social History,
Scottish History, Classics and Archaeology, along with the
Centre for the Study of the Two World Wars.
The
School has around 70 teaching and research
staff, making it one of the largest units of
its kind in the United Kingdom. It provides
teaching for around 1500 undergraduates and 100
postgraduate
students. Both History and Classics recruit
strongly to their courses and offer students
an enviable
degree of choice.
The School has a vibrant research
culture, which in History reflects the approaches
of both the
Arts and the Social Sciences traditions and
in Classics covers the entire range of classical
study, including classical archaeology. The
Head
of School is Douglas Cairns. |
